چکیده

conclusions the rate of mortality in the first postoperative year was high; however, functional outcomes were satisfactory. most of the patients could return to their previous activity levels. in the current study, we found no significant correlation between delay in surgery, and mortality at the first postoperative year and hhs. background femoral neck fractures (fnf) are a challenging orthopedic problem, and their appropriate treatment remains controversial. nowadays, bipolar hemiarthroplasty (bha) is increasingly used to treat fnf. objectives in the current retrospective study, we investigated the outcomes of treating fnf with bha. methods there were 55 patients with fnf enrolled in the current retrospective study. the variables measured were mortality in the first postoperative year, returning to the pre-injury activity level, the harris hip score (hhs) and pain intensity based on a visual analogue scale (vas) at the last visit. the correlation between a delay in surgery, and mortality and hhs were investigated. results sixteen patients died within the first postoperative year (29%). hhs and vas averaged 83.5 ± 15.5 and 0.7 ± 0.9, respectively. patients who achieved good or excellent outcomes were 72% and 74% returned to their previous activity level. of the study group, 95% of patients ambulated with or without using assistive devices. although we found no significant correlation between delay in surgery, and mortality or hhs, hhs decreased with increased time interval between injury and surgery.

The Outcomes of Treating Femoral Neck Fractures Using Bipolar Hemiarthroplasty

Background: Femoral neck fractures (FNF) are a challenging orthopedic problem, and their appropriate treatment remains controversial. Nowadays, bipolar hemiarthroplasty (BHA) is increasingly used to treat FNF. Objectives: In the current retrospective study, we investigated the outcomes of treating FNF with BHA. Methods: There were 55 patients with FNF enrolled in the current retrospective study...

Treatment of Femoral Neck Fractures: Unipolar Versus Bipolar Hemiarthroplasty

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Intracapsular femoral neck fractures are common in the elderly population. To avoid the poor outcome of internal fixation and for early mobilization, hemiarthroplasty is performed. However, there is inadequate evidence to support the choice between unipolar or bipolar hemiarthroplasty. The aim of this study was to compare the outcome of unipolar with the bipolar prosthe...

In-Hospital Outcomes after Hemiarthroplasty versus Total Hip Arthroplasty for Isolated Femoral Neck Fractures

Background:    Previous studies suggest total hip arthroplasty may have some benefits compared to hemi-arthroplasty for displaced intracapsular femoral neck fractures in patients more than 60 years of age. The primary research question of our study was whether in-hospital adverse events, post-operative length of stay (LOS) and mortality in patients 60 year of age or older differed between tot...

Short-term Outcomes of Femoral Neck Fractures Treated With Hemiarthroplasty Using the Anterior Approach.

The direct anterior approach has recently gained popularity for patients undergoing elective total hip arthroplasty. It is unknown whether the reported benefits of the direct anterior approach to elective total hip arthroplasty can be extrapolated to patients undergoing hemiarthroplasty after femoral neck fracture. A retrospective review of 101 patients was performed to compare the outcomes of ...

The Hastings bipolar hemiarthroplasty for subcapital fractures of the femoral neck. A 10-year prospective study.

In a 10-year prospective study, 561 displaced subcapital fractures of the femoral neck in 546 patients were treated with the Hastings bipolar hemiarthroplasty. Within six months of their operations, 148 patients had died. In 322 hips followed up, 243 with adequate serial radiographs separated by more than one year, only 14 (5.6%) showed acetabular erosion. A group of 91 had been reviewed for be...
